This is my first Blue Moon...how exactly does it work?

I really don't know, if i'm honest. This is my first one too :'D so i can't help. Maybe the explenation or like that? Dunno exactly

And there are of course some victims. And some horses who become shade.

Nope, not that i know

During the Blue Moon (exact dates can be found HERE, last post) Shades can enter any ongoing thread they want. They will especially enter thread where the horse isn't in it's own area (say a rank 1 horse in Orlais (=rank 2). Your horse will be to weak to fight it (them) off but the leaders of your rank and the fighters (HERE -need to translate it but you can see which horses are Fighters-) can come to your rescue. Shades can harm your horse and even kill it but if you really don't want to have your horse killed you can let the player know. You can't do anything against getting wounded though. It's really just to have an element of 'fear' for the horses and you can 'use' them for nice plots and stuff.

So, my character is currently with Emperor E'vesdar...she is only rank 1 but in Orlais. But, would the Shades still want to attack her if she's with such a high level horse?

In theory, they could. Yet I don't really know how they handle that. But since Ali is on holiday now I assume they won't barge in there now.

Also, I was wondering if you could have two threads with the same character going on at a time. Does that mess up the timeline or is it pretty common?

No one really follows a timeline. So yes, you can have as many threads as you want. But then you might eventually have a clash with actions that might interfere with eachother but I don't think that'll happen unless you have a plotline going.

If you really really don't want a shade to mess up your thread I'm sure you can work something out but just keep in the back of your head it might happen and perhaps it's a nice twist to the topic.

Okay, thanks. I was going to start a thread for upgrading to rank 2, but wasn't sure if that would be tricky or not. Also, if the shades do enter the post Ali and I have going, how would it work if she doesn't reply, but I do?
